On Saturday, June 10, 2023, the Southern California Handball Association hosted a one day 3-Wall Small Ball Tournament at Smith Park in San Gabriel, CA that served as a Fund Raiser for the 3-Wall Junior Nationals that will be held at Venice Beach, July 13-16, 2023. Over $2,000 was raised through entry fees and donations, which will be used to provide food, drinks, snacks, “SWAG” and entry fees for local Juniors.
Gilbert Granado from the Santa Ana Handball Club, came out to show support. He has one of the most promising youth handball programs in Southern California, and SCHA is looking forward to collaborating with him to support youth handball.
The Open Division Champions were Armando Ortiz and Eli Barajas who defeated Ivan Chapa and Richard “Bori” Garcia. Much respect to the White Lion who stepped out of his comfort zone and played a damn good game of small ball.
The “A” Division Champions were Manny Carbahal and Anthony Sanchez who defeated Jorge Lopez and Larry Barunda in the hotly contested final that went tie breaker.
The “B” Division Champions were Sabrina Zamora and Gabriel Molina who defeated Tony Soprano and Jesse Aranda.
All participants received a pair of Owen Gloves, winners received embroidered pullovers with logos from SCHA, USHA and Owen Gloves.
The highlight of the day was when over 40 handball players sang happy birthday to “The Rapper” Mark Zamora who is now 62!
