LAFD past and present scorch the competition at 13th Annual Legends Doubles Tournament

The 13th Annual Legends Doubles Tournament was held, January 11 – 12 at Tom and Rosie Martinez’s house in Rancho Cucamonga. Even if you’ve never been to his house, many know Tom from his numerous handball titles and time on the local and national tournament circuit.

The tournament saw 22 competitors battling it out on Tom’s literal home court (the regulation handball court is attached to his home).

The hospitality, which included tamales and Mexican mole, was excellent, and the games were competitive but friendly.

Retired Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Roy Harvey again picked the right player in LAFD Captain II Alex Garcia, and they battled through a tough-fought victory over Ricardo Palma and Rob Nichols. Lightning struck twice for Roy as he won two years ago with LAFD Fire Captain I Ryan Chance.
